Bluefield State College (BSC), Concord University (CU) and New River Community and Technical College (NRCTC) have teamed up with the local Regional Educational Services Agency (RESA) to create the STEM Family Fun Day in conjunction with the RESA I Regional Science Fair.

The Erma Byrd Higher Education Center (EBHEC) in Beaver, W.Va. will be transformed into a giant science laboratory on April 29 from 8:30 a.m. – 1 p.m. for area families to tour a life-sized whale, visit a radiology laboratory, explore space in NASA’s Star Lab, launch rockets, explore robotics, and visit other Science, Technology, Engineering and Math stations set up throughout the Erma Byrd Higher Education Complex.

RESA I’s Regional Science Fair is bringing 94 county-level winners from Wyoming, Summers, Raleigh, McDowell and Mercer counties to compete on the regional level. The STEM Family Fun Day will give parents, siblings, students and friends an opportunity to explore more about science, technology, engineering and math while projects are being judged.

“This event is free and open to all families, so everyone should join us for this exciting opportunity to learn more about fun, learning, and jobs in STEM,” explained Dr. Susan Williams, Executive Director of the CU Beckley location.

The RESA I Regional Science Fair is funded by RESA. The STEM Family Fun Day is a collaborative effort by BSC, CU, NRCTC and the EBHEC.
