CHARLESTON — Students at colleges and universities across West Virginia are being sought to enter the Science, Technology and Research Symposium student science video competition.
This is the first video competition to be held in conjunction with the STaR Symposium, replacing the traditional student poster competition.
The 5th biennial STaR Symposium will take place in October, at the Waterfront Place Hotel in Morgantown. The competition is open to students, faculty, researchers and business and industry representatives interested in energy use, energy conservation and energy research in West Virginia.
The theme is “The Evolution of Energy: From Scarcity to Abundance.” The keynote speaker will be David Pogue, a nationally known science author, New York Times columnist and host of the Public Broadcasting series “Nova Science Now.”
Other speakers will include Cal Kent, the retired vice president of Business and Economic Research at Marshall University, and Tom Witt, professor emeritus of Economics at West Virginia University, along well as more than a dozen energy experts and researchers.
The deadline for video entries is Sept. 8, with 20 finalists to be selected to present at the symposium.
Information about the video competition and registration for the STaR Symposium is available at www.wvresearch.org/STaR.
