Spring 2013
West Virginia eighth graders get Nanooze magazine special edition
A printed magazine intended to stimulate interest by middle school students in careers in science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) is in the hands of 8th grade students at schools across West Virginia.
In mid-April, a special West Virginia edition of Nanooze magazine was mailed to all 208 8th-grade science classes in the state with sufficient quantities for each student.
The Division of Science and Research of the West Virginia Higher Education Policy Commission produced the magazine with the help of Dr. Carl Batt of Cornell University and the State Department of Education.
Studies show that West Virginia needs an additional 20,000 college graduates a year by 2020, with a large percentage of those graduating with STEM degrees.
