The Statler College will host its two Engineering Challenge Camps for elementary aged students the week of July 28.

 

HIGHLIGHTED ACTIVITIES:  First-Third Grade Camp

Tuesday, July 29, 10 a.m., 109 Mineral Resources Building. Beam Me Up Day (Civil Engineering). Pasta and Marshmallow Bridge Competition. Led by Camp Counselors: Rachel Dern, Molly Banfield, Alex Watson, Chandler Smith. Campers will use items from the kitchen to build bridges and a competition for the strongest bridge will be held.

Wednesday, July 30, 11 a.m., 109 Mineral Resources Building/ ESB Courtyard. re-ACTION Day (Chemical Engineering). Giant Bubbles/Elephant Toothpaste Activity. Led by Camp Counselors: Rachel Dern, Molly Banfield, Alex Watson, Chandler Smith. Campers will learn about chemical reactions through messy, fun experiments.

Friday, August 1, 11:30 a.m., 107 Mineral Resources Building/Courtyard, Engineering Sciences Building. Move it, Move it Day (Mechanical Engineering). Marshmallow Launcher Design and Test. Led by Camp Counselors: Rachel Dern, Molly Banfield, Alex Watson, Chandler Smith. Using PVC pipe and various fittings, campers will design and test their own marshmallow launcher that they can take home.

 

HIGHLIGHTED ACTIVITIES:  Fourth and Fifth Grade Camp

Monday, July 28, 1:30 p.m., 107 Mineral Resources Building. Up, Up and Away Day (Aerospace Engineering). Hovercraft Activity. Led by Camp Counselors: Rachel Dern, Molly Banfield, Alex Watson, Chandler Smith. Campers will learn the basic principles behind a hovercraft and build their own small, table-top craft.

Tuesday, July 29, 1:30 p.m., 107 Mineral Resources Building. Beam Me Up Day (Civil Engineering). Transportation Planning Game. Led by Camp Counselors: Rachel Dern, Molly Banfield, Alex Watson, Chandler Smith. To learn about planning roadways, campers will compete in teams to plan the most efficient road while avoiding obstacles such as parks, buildings, and traffic jams.

Friday, August 1, 3 p.m., 109 Mineral Resources Building. Move it, Move it Day (Mechanical Engineering). Catapult Design, Build, Test. Led by Camp Counselors: Rachel Dern, Molly Banfield, Alex Watson, Chandler Smith. Using popsicle sticks, rubber bands, and other common materials, campers will build a small catapult to take home.
