Calling all WV Educators! Below are two great upcoming workshops.
The Sun and Earth: A Heliophysics Workshop
One of NASA’s most important priorities is researching how the Sun “works” and the intricacies of the Sun-Earth connection. In addition to their Space Weather Kit, the NASA IV&V Educator Resource Center is now offering a Heliophysics Kit that provides two tubs full of hands-on activities about the sun, seasons, solar system, and the universe. This is geared primarily for 4th-8th grade classrooms but many of the activities are adaptable for younger students.
You can borrow this kit if you attend the workshop.
When: Wednesday, August 5th 9:00 AM-1:00 PM
Where: NASA IV&V’s Educator Resource Center, 100 University Drive, Fairmont WV

GLOBE: Atmospheric Protocols Workshop
Did you know that NASA has a series of satellites flying over West Virginia every afternoon at 1:30? These satellites are studying clouds and atmosphere. Come learn how your students can collect real science data concerning the state’s atmosphere. Learn cloud protocols that even Kindergarteners can do. Learn to set up a weather station at your school and help GLOBE, NASA and NOAA with climate studies.
Using the GLOBE program, students carry out investigations that scientists have designed to gather data about the earth and how it functions. The students can enter their collected data onto the GLOBE site where it will be used by scientists, educators and students around the world. GLOBE educators bring excitement and in-depth learning to their classrooms. While we are learning the atmosphere protocols today, GLOBE also has Soil, Hydrology, Land Cover and even Hummingbird studies your students can participate in.
